NXT Hits and Misses 4.1.2020 w/ The Chairman
Wrestlemania is this weekend, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. NXT Takeover Tampa was supposed to be this weekend, but instead the matches will be taking place on television the next few weeks. The main event tonight is the NXT North American Championship triple threat match between Keith Lee, Damian Priest, and Dominik Dijakovic. Let’s see how it went down.
MISS MISS MISS: Sam Roberts was on commentary so that was cringe as it gets.
HIT: Dream Catches a Fish
Velveteen Dream keeps working his way thru the Undisputed Era gauntlet. This time it was Bobby Fish. Dream of course was victorious by hitting the Dream Valley Driver. It was weird not seeing the rest of Undisputed Era, but this is the way. Dream called out Adam Cole afterwards and told him to put down the video games. Dream and Cole will happen eventually for the NXT Championship, just when at this point. Count on a match with Kyle O’Reilly between now and then as well.
HOLD: Dexter Lumis Squash
If you watched TNA years back, you probably remember Samuel Shaw. Well he’s Dexter Lumis now in NXT complete with a Stranger Things sounding theme and Lumis continues his weird stalker serial killer persona that he did in TNA and if the name Dexter doesn’t ring a bell, I don’t know what to tell you. He squashed Jake Atlas for what its worth so we’ll have to see what the end game is for Lumis.
HIT: Women’s Gauntlet
The final spot was on the line for the women’s number one contender ladder match next week. Shotzi Blackheart started off against Deonna Purrazzo. Shotzi pretty much ran the table by defeating Purrazzo, Xia Li, Aliyah, and Kayden Carter. Shotzi was looking good here and definitely is on her way as a contender in a stacked women division. However the inevitable happened as the final wrestler in the gauntlet match was Dakota Kai and sure enough Kai won with the assistance of Raquel Gonzalez of course. Kai joins her rival Tegan Nox, Mia Yim, Chelsea Green, Io Shirai, and Candice LeRae to determine the number one contender next week.
HIT: Kushida Gets Wilde
Kushida takes on Joaquin Wilde in a decent match. Both men definitely are looking to gain some momentum after some hard luck for the most part. Kushida of course having more name value secured this win and rightfully so. A frustrated Wilde was interviewed after the match and was abducted by the same masked men that took Raul Mendoza. No idea where this storyline is going, but am I going to care?
HIT: Lee Survives His Rivals
This match was fine for a triple threat, but Lee and Dijakovic’s match at NXT Takeover Portland is the best one to see between these guys. Sure Priest is involved now in this and he’s a great talent as well. However there’s no way Keith Lee is cooling off yet as he pinned Dijakovic. Priest not being involved the decision should be able to stake his claim still to Keith Lee, but we’ll see if that’s the direction things go.
That was NXT again in another empty arena show. Next week we get the six women ladder match and the final chapter between the Rebel Heart and the Black Heart so definitely should be an excellent show next week.
