NXT Hits and Misses 3.11.20 w/ The Chairman
NXT this week featured a NXT Tag Team Championship match between the Broserweights and the Undisputed Era and a NXT North American Championship match between Keith Lee and Cameron Grimes. Let’s find out what happened.
HIT: Bask in Keith Lee’s Glory
Keith Lee has quite a few challengers for his title and Cameron Grimes gave it his all. However he was unsuccessful as he fell victim to the Big Bang Catastrophe. Lee couldn’t celebrate long though as Damian Priest took his knee out with the pipe. Dominik Dijakovic chased Priest off, but Lee hit Dijakovic with the Spirit Bomb never seeing Priest. Could very well have a triple threat coming up between these three for the NXT North American title.
HOLD: Mia Yim Joins the Ladder Match
Mia Yim has had her issues with Dakota Kai so it’s only fitting these two would happen to collide in the qualifier for the upcoming ladder match at Takeover. Raquel Gonzalez was of course at ringside with Kai and tried to make things difficult for Yim. However Yim still managed to overcome the odds and defeat Dakota Kai. After the match she was laid out by Gonzalez. I’m not sure if this was the right booking decision here with. Dakota Kai picked up alot of key wins lately against Tegan Nox, including last Takeover. Maybe there’s a last chance match and Dakota Kai gets in there still?
HOLD: Kushida Finally Wins
Kushida faced off against NXT resident enhancement talent Raul Mendoza in a quick match. Kushida desperately needed a win and I guess this jump starts him. Of course it remains to be seen what Kushida’s long term plans are. NXT has missed the boat on him since they signed him and Kushida can definitely go. If you don’t believe me, check out some of his work in New Japan.
HIT: Charlotte Invades the Performance Center
Rhea Ripley touched on her Wrestlemania match against Charlotte Flair and Flair decided to show up at the Performance Center. The crowd was hostile towards Charlotte saying she didn’t go here and go back to Raw and Charlotte did an excellent job shutting them down every time they tried to chant something. Charlotte and Rhea got physical for a bit here with Charlotte walking away.
MISS: Tegan Nox Joins the Ladder Match in a Squash
Tegan Nox had been struggling with her rival Dakota Kai, but she didn’t in this match against Deonna Purrazzo. Nox desperately needed the momentum here as he put Purrazzo away with the Shiniest Wizard, but Purrazzo could’ve been at least made to look like a contender in this big match. As I stated before, there’s no way they can leave Dakota Kai out of the ladder match. Especially now with Tegan Nox in it.
HIT: Broserweights Retain
The final match of the evening featured Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle defending the NXT Tag Team Championship against the team they defeated at Takeover, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly. Early on Adam Cole and Roderick Strong made things difficult, but the ref eventually tossed them from ringside. Riddle and Dunne’s title reign was almost over when the Grizzled Young Veterans James Drake and Zack Gibson came to the ring. Dunne and Riddle managed to survive and hit the double strike to retain. Grizzled Young Vets will definitely keep making things difficult for Dunne and Riddle until they get a shot at the titles.
HIT: Performance Center Brawl
Tommaso Ciampa went to the ring and wanted to fight Gargano. Instead Johnny Gargano showed up on the screen and told him to find him. Ciampa went backstage and they brawled all over the place. Holes in walls, mirrors busted, pay per view posters smashed. The Performance Center took place of a huge brawl between the two big rivals of NXT.
Decent episode of NXT with two title matches and some build towards Takeover. Thanks for reading and see you next time.
