Bumping Up…Douggie Mathews
Interviews can be a tricky topic. Not only do you have to create engaging content, but you also have to come up with questions that make for a cohesive read. And that’s all before you’re even able to find time in the interviewee’s busy schedule to ask the questions.
If it were an interview with someone you’re already aware of, then it’s more likely you will read it, right? But what about those you don’t know. You could be missing out on getting to know your next new favourite wrestler, and you wouldn’t even know it.
In order to spread the word on talent on the indie circuit, I got straight to the basics.
Bumping Up is here to point you in their direction and broaden your scope on new talent and promotions. If you like what you read, give them a follow & check out their next show. You never know where all this will take you.
So without further ado, let’s get down to brass tacks & introduce you to…
Name; Douggie Mathews
Hometown; North Wales
How many years have you been a professional wrestler? I have been wrestling for 4 and a half years. I starting training when I was 13 years old.
Who are your role models? (either currently or growing up) My role model is Kevin Owens. He is an all-round great talent; a beast on the mic and a beast in the ring. Also, all of the talent involved in WWE NXT UK. That whole brand (of NXT UK) has inspired me so much and given me that extra bit of motivation (as an independent British wrestler) to chase my dream of working for the WWE.
Was this something you always wanted to do? or did you slowly transition from a ‘9-5’ to where you are now? I’ve always wanted to be a professional wrestler, it just took me a while to find out what I needed to do. I used to play football but then I discovered the Britannia Wrestling Promotions training gym up in North Wales and it went from there really.
What are your main goals for the next few years? My goals for the next few years are to keep working hard, giving 100% and trying to get out to as many promotions as possible. Also, to try and get to a level where people like Tom Thelwell and Ethan Allen are at at the moment wrestling for Progress and Futureshock. They’re the same age as me!
What’s your proudest achievement in your career so far? My proudest achievement in my career so far has definitely got to be when Joey Marcus and I invaded Wrestle Island and got involved in the PWI Tag Team Title match between the Dogs of War and Paradox. The more promotions and fans I am exposed to, the better.
And finally, where are some of the promotions fans can currently see you in action? You can stay up to date with all my upcoming shows by following me online at the following;
