It’s Bootleg Merch Baay Baay!

We want Lego!

Does anyone remember Stackdown? The officially licensed WWE Leg…construction brick toy. It had potential, but the figures were dreadful & the sets were too small & niche. A proper Lego series would be awesome and a guaranteed seller! (in fact, one Brit does have a Lego Ideas set that is well worth a vote, which can be done so here) anyway. That’s an idea. I want something tangible and in hand now! well, you can…kind of.

Well, this looks legit…

I was browsing Home Bargains one Sunday (as I often do) & came across this Wrestling themed construction toy set, and at £8.99 I had to buy it.

Straight off the bat, we can see where their ‘inspiration’ came from. If that isn’t Rey Mysterio and The Big Show, I’ll eat my shorts! (kids still say that, right?) What’s even funnier is, you don’t even get the Ray (inspired) figure inside the box! We’ll tackle figures shortly, but so far it’s not actually that bad.

What’s in the box!?

This is where things become interesting. You see, this is actually one set that can be made up 3 different ways.

1) An arena (as per the box art)

2) A gym and/or locker room area

3) Well…I’m not exactly sure what this is supposed to be. Any thoughts?

Either way at £8.99, that’s exactly not that bad. But how does it build?

Patience required

The box claims that it is aimed at 6-year-olds and over. Now, I have a very intelligent 6-year old who is currently enjoying a Minecraft phase. I know I’m biased, but she’s really nifty with Lego too. There’s no way she’d manage this without a lot of guidance & supervision. The instructions are WAY too small & dark and the vast majority of pieces are way too tiny.

Finished product

However. Once it’s made (I didn’t bother with option 2 or 3 as neither interested me) it’s not actually that bad.

Obviously, the scale is way off (that camera is nearly as big as the ring!) and the ropes just look awful (I’m sure there’s a better way to do them) but we’re not going for authenticity. It’s a fun little playset and with the right figures (check out @assui88 on Twitter for some of the best Lego custom figures you have ever seen) it would make for some very interesting toy photography. Speaking of figures…

Now entering the ring

Now, I personally am not saying that this company has ripped anyone off. But they have clearly had inspirations from somewhere. That being said, Inside the box, you get the following;

Two referees (with hair)

One BIG Man

One EXTREME Guy, probably called Robert or Bob

And a Goth Biker who probably isn’t alive

Joking aside, they’re actually not that bad. Again, for less than a tenner you’re getting one set that transforms into 3, and 5 Minifigures! Well worth picking up if you’re into that kind of thing.

If anyone has any tips on how I can improve the ropes to make it look more like a wrestling ring, then let me know in the comments below! and if you see any more bootleg sets like this, get in touch with me on Twitter here.
