WWE NXT Review 8.28.19

Io Shirai vs Cami Fields

Is it wrong as a reviewer to say that heel Io Shirai makes me feel some way? I don’t think it is. Because everyone reading this feels the exact same way too. Shirai hits a dropkick right off the bat.  Fields tries a backdrop but Shirai lands on her feet. Io hits an uppercut and then double knees in the corner. Io hits a moonsault but pulls up at two. Io then applies a leg clutch for the win.

WINNER: Io Shirai

After the match Io grabs a kendo stick, but Candice LeRae comes into the ring and swipes it and lands a couple shots.

Keith Lee vs Dominik Dijakovic

Lee leap frogs Dijakovic early then knocks him down with a shoulder tackle. Dijakovic comes back and hits a nice kick to Lee. Dijakovic goes for a suplex but Lee hits a back elbow and a couple of forearms. Lee hits a slingshot crossbody then a lariat for two. They go to the apron where Dijakovic charges at Lee but Lee lifts him up with one hand and drops him on the apron. Beth Phoenix lets us know it is the hardest part of the ring. They exchange forearms after Lee rolls Dijakovic back into the ring. He then hits a fosbury flop over the top onto Lee. Dijakovic goes to the top but Lee flips him. I think Dijakovic was suppose to land on his feet but he almost landed on his head.

Dijakovic takes down Lee then hits a moonsault but only gets two. Dijakovic goes to the top but Lee meets him there. Lee hits a Spanish Fly off the top but only gets a two count. This time Lee goes to the top and Dijakovic meets him. Lee knocks him off. Dijakovic gets back up and crotches Lee. Dijakovic lifts him in the torture rack position then hits Feast Your Eyes for the win.

WINNER: Dominik Dijakovic- Good match here. Lee needs to get some wins at some point. I actually might have given him the win here. You can play it off as Dijakovic’s first match back and he still isn’t 100%. But if they do a rematch I would think Lee has to win.

They show a Johnny Gargano retrospect package. Shane Thorne comes out to the announce table and asks why no one is talking about him.

Shayna Baszler comes out with Shafir and Duke. Before Shayna can even speak, Rhea Ripley comes out. Ripley says she knows Shayna is going to say that she’s beaten everyone here. But Shayna hasn’t beaten her BITCH. Shayna and her lackeys leave as Rhea stares them down.

NXT Tag Team Championship: Street Profits (c) vs Undisputed Era (Fish and O’Reilly)

The match starts with some basic mat work and headlocks. Ford hits a nice dropkick. It looks really good. It is nice to see these guys actually wrestle rather than just do promos backstage. Ford hits a kick to O’Reilly on the outside then an armdrag on Fish. But O’Reilly catches Ford with a kick to the back to slow things down. They start working over the leg of Ford. Ford is able to land on his feet on a backdrop and make the hot tag to Dawkins. Dawkins cleans house and lands some power moves. O’Reilly makes a blind tag as Dawkins German suplexes Fish and Fish also narrowly avoids landing on his head. O’Reilly lands some hard kicks on Dawkins now and O’Reilly then applies a leg lock. Ford is able to break it up.

They reset as all four men exchange punches. Ford gets taken out with a dragon screw leg whip. Dawkins goes to t-bone suplex O’Reilly but O’Reilly applies a triangle choke. Dawkins powers out. Ford makes the tag and Dawkins hits a Frog splash. Fish pulls O’Reilly out. Ford shoots slightly over both men on the outside on a dive. Back in the ring, Dawkins spears Fish. But O’Reilly takes out Dawkins with a knee. Ford then misses a frog splash. They then hit the high low on Ford for the win.

WINNERS and NEW NXT Tag Team Champions: Undisputed Era- The match was a tad on the sloppy side. Their match at Takeover was much better. I think having all the Titles on Undisputed Era for the debut show on USA is a smart idea. It establishes them as the top force in NXT. I’m going to guess Roderick Strong gets another shot at Dream soon.

Until Next Time,
