WWE NXT 6.19.19

Justin C here. Now that I am finally off RAW coverage, I am going to start bringing you recaps of NXT every week. It may not be immediately after the show like today, but it will be up by Thursday. I’m hoping to cover other shows as well in the weeks and months ahead, as well as dedicate more time to my featured column writing.

Anyways, lets get into NXT!

Adam Cole Title Celebration

Out comes the Undisputed Era. It would have been nice if Kyle O’Reilly brought out an actual guitar to play to celebrate. Cole says him winning is the start of the Undisputed Era taking all the gold in NXT. He says they will remake NXT into the Undisputed Image. Cole thinks the show should start every week with the intro just being clips of the Undisputed Era and shows a video he thinks should play. Kyle O’Reilly says he put the video together last night. Look at the skills Kyle masters when he doesn’t have his guitar! Cole says when they have all the gold, no one will be able to touch them, not even Triple H.

Velveteen Dream comes out. He says he’d like to touch Cole. Dream says he is the reason NXT is where it is today. And while the NXT Gold looks good on Cole, it would look better on him. Roderick Strong tells Dream to “dream on.” As Strong is talking Matt Riddle comes out. He reminds Cole he has beaten him before. Cole says Riddle is jealous because Riddle has never been a Champion. Cole says maybe Riddle should go back to writing reviews online about wrestlers from the Attitude Era. Cole says everyone is living in the Undisputed Era. Out comes Tyler Breeze. Breeze says he built NXT before any of these idiots were ever here. Breeze says he talked to Mr. Regal, and it will be him, Riddle and Dream against any 3 of the Undisputed Era in the main event.

JC’s Take: Fun opening segment to set things up in the weeks ahead. Cole comes off as a natural as a top guy. Undisputed Era is too over to treat them as actual heels so they are pretty much letting the crowd side with whomever they want.

Recap of the Shayna Baszler/Io Shirai feud. They fight in a Steel Cage Match next week.

Raul Mendoza vs Damian Priest

Priest of course is the former Punishment Martinez from Ring of Honor. Priest’s entrance is a little over the top for my liking. But it definitely looks like Priest trimmed down a bit. Mendoza actually gets more offense in than I would have liked. He knocks Priest out of the ring. But Priest catches Mendoza on the outside and chokeslams him on the apron. Even Beth Phoenix reminds us it is the hardest part of the ring. Priest hits a spinning head kick then a rolling cutter for the win.

WINNER: Damian Priest

William Regal announces a Tournament for NXT wrestlers not currently on TV, with the winner getting a Title shot of their choosing. The competitors:

Angel Garza (formerly Garza Jr.)

Isiah “Swerve” Scott (formerly Shane Strickland and Killshot of Lucha Underground, Vince Russo would love this name)

Jordan Myles (formerly ACH)

Joaquin Wilde (formerly DJZ)

Dexter Lumis (formerly Sam Shaw)

Bronson Reed (formerly Jonah Rock)

Cameron Grimes (formerly Trevor Lee)

Mia Yim video package going into her background. She finishes with a line letting Shayna know that she is the hell and high water. I liked that line. These are the things WWE should be doing to get people over.

Taynara Conti vs Xia Li

I don’t like Conti’s gimmick. She’s trying to play a blonde show off in addition to being a badass in the ring. I don’t think it works for her. She’s landing some hard kicks on Li. Li escapes a submission and gets a comeback going. Conti awkwardly falls on a leg sweep, then slowly walks back from the corner to eat a spinning heel kick for the win. Not the best showing for Conti.

Street Profits are out in the Orlando sun celebrating their Tag Title win with fans.

Matt Riddle, Tyler Breeze and Velveteen Dream vs Undisputed Era

Kyle O’Reilly is sitting this one out. His back is probably still shit from that ladder match anyways. Riddle starts the match with Cole and takes him down to the mat a couple times. Riddle goes for a quick knee bar but it is broken up. Undisputed Era works over Riddle for a bit until Dream tags in. Dream gets some nice offense in then tags in Breeze. But Breeze is immediately pushed into the corner. Breeze hits a dropkick on Cole. Riddle tags himself in and lands some knees on Cole. Riddle hits a ripcord knee then a senton on Cole. All hell breaks loose then O’Reilly hits Riddle from behind.

The heels start to get the heat on Riddle. Quick tags as they lay the boots to Riddle. Cole knocks Dream off the apron, but this allows Riddle to recover and land some hits then tag in Breeze. Breeze lands some dropkicks then hits the Beauty Shot on Fish but Strong pulls Fish out of the ring. Dream tags himself in. Cole superkicks Riddle off the apron. Dream and Breeze double superkick Cole. Strong knees Dream into Breeze, then Strong hits Death by Roderick for the win.

WINNERS: Undisputed Era: Strong pinning Dream sets up a potential Strong vs Dream match for the North American Title down the line. Good TV main event here with the cohesiveness of Undisputed Era winning out in the end.

Until Next Time,

Justin C
