Quick Hits: WWE WrestleMania 35 4.7.19 (Rousey/Charlotte/Lynch, Lesnar/Rollins, Bryan/Kingston)

WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match – Buddy Murphy vs Tony Nese

{Prediction: Only picked Tony Nese cause I saw Mattel is releasing a bunch of figures for him this year.}

  • Stellar cruiserweight but nothing super special here. Nice to see Nese being rewarded for years of hard work.

WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal

{Prediction: Asuka}

  • Surprisingly fun spots near the end. I popped for Sarah Logan winning and somewhat deflated when I saw Carmella. Quick and painless, Kickoff Show fodder.

WWE Raw Tag Team Championship
The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) (c) vs. Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder

{Prediction: I love Hawkins and Ryder, they seem like great guys and a WrestleMania win to end Hawkins’ losing streak would be incredible. But would they really job The Revival just to tell that story? Yes, yes they would.
Winners AND NEW: Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder}

  • Love seeing the tag titles defended, even if its on the Kickoff.
  • Check out the time these guys are getting!
  • Brainbuster on the floor! All of MetLife Stadium chanting “Let’s Go Hawkins!” That must feel awesome!
  • AND HE GOT HIM! AND NEW! Great WrestleMania moment for these guys and incredible conclusion to Hawkins’ story.

André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

{Prediction: Andrade}

  • I really hope Braun doesn’t win this battle royal too. He doesn’t need this on his resume right now.
  • HOLY CRUD LOOK AT BRAUN! He’s cut out of granite!
  • Welp, that was predictable. Just another chapter in Braun’s dominant run.

WWE Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins

{Prediction: Last year, we were all certain Brock Lesnar was leaving the WWE and Roman Reigns would finally win the Universal Championship. That didn’t happen. Now everything points to Seth Rollins finally dethroning The Beast “for the people”. Rollins is a stronger babyface than Reigns and can carry RAW for both the kids and adults’ entertainment. It’s time for Brock to take a break and Seth to set a new standard as champion similar to what AJ Styles did for SmackDown.
Winner AND NEW: Seth Rollins}

  • Wait, what?! The first match?! Hell yeah let’s do it!
  • I am so thrown by this turn of events and I love it.
  • We always knew Rollins was going to take a beating in this match but damn.
  • STOMP! Rollins with the 3. That was the most thrilling ten minutes in WrestleMania history. Fantastic booking and match.

AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton

{Prediction: Here’s your sleeper hit that has ever tool to steal the show. I’ve never seen two more fluid pro-wrestlers than Styles and Orton and the WrestleMania stage brings out the best in both men. I can’t wait for this one. Winner: AJ Styles}

  • Here’s the one I’ve been looking forward to the most. Expect big things from these two.
  • RKO and a KICK OUT! When was the last time that happened?
  • Great RKO teases before the final Phenomenal Forearm. Smart match back and forth. I’d love to see more from these two.

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) (c) vs. Ricochet and Aleister Black vs. The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev

{Prediction: While The Usos deserve a big ‘Mania moment, it feels like the tag team division is about to be shaken up and who better to lead that change than Ricochet and Aleister Black.
Winners AND NEW: Ricochet and Aleister Black}

  • I expect these teams to light up WrestleMania.
  • Aleister Black really should’ve gotten new candles for WrestleMania.
  • I love that so far the matches have been shorter but each star is getting a big entrance and the matches have been far more exciting.
  • Aw they got me with the 630 near fall. Thought that was it.
  • Good closing sequence and happy for the Usos, arguably the greatest team of their generation.

  • Always cool seeing the Hall of Fame inductees in the big stadium. And of course DX couldn’t just stand on their star like everyone else.

Falls Count Anywhere match
Shane McMahon vs. The Miz

{Prediction: This match has all the tools to be the most fun match on Sunday night. Shane McMahon made his reputation in matches like this and The Miz grew up watching Shane compete in those matches. Both of these men click well together so I have high hopes for some inventive spots in this match. Winner: The Miz (so he can challenge Daniel Bryan next)}

  • I guess Miz’s dad is playing the Nicholas part this year of random non-wrestler in a WrestleMania ring.
  • Thank God they went out into the crowd instead of just staying ringside.
  • Loved the homage to Undertaker/HHH at WrestleMania 17 with them fighting on the camera platform.
  • A suplex?! Crash pad or no pad, that stunt was incredible and deserved the gasp the crowd gave them. Great brawl and true falls count anywhere match.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection (Bayley and Sasha Banks) (c) vs. Beth Phoenix and Natalya vs. The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) vs. Nia Jax and Tamina

{Prediction:  Great group of talent for this match and unbelievable seeing Beth Phoenix back. But Banks and Bayley are the face of this division and deserve to be for the foreseeable future.
Winners: The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection}

  • Wow…. I’m shocked. I’m happy for the IIconics but I am truly shocked.

WWE Championship
Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kofi Kingston

{Prediction: I want Kofi to win. It’s a great story and a great time to put Kofi at the top of the card. But he’s an unknown as a champion and SmackDown is heading into a crucial time as a show moving to FOX. WWE will want established, proven stars driving the blue brand and Daniel Bryan is their strongest option at the moment.
Winner: Daniel Bryan}

  • I’m LOVING the pace of this show. It’s flying by in all the best ways possible!
  • Anyone else notice a covered over championship ringside?
  • MetLife is in the palm of their hands. Pure drama.
  • Clean and in the middle of the ring. Kofi Kingston deserves every bit of praise he receives for this accomplishment. And how awesome was that post match celebration?

WWE United States Championship
Samoa Joe (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

{Prediction: The storyline injury to Mysterio gives the underdog an out if he loses to Joe and I think he will. Joe needs a long run with the red, white and blue belt. Winner: Samoa Joe}

  • Quick and dangerous victory for Samoa Joe. Exactly what his character deserves. What a debut for Joe.

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre

{Prediction: This will be the WALTER/Pete Dunne of WrestleMania night; stiff, rough and brutal. In the end, while future money is still in McIntyre, Roman Reigns gets the big WrestleMania moment.
Winner: Roman Reigns}

  • These guys had the worst luck having to follow Kofi’s championship win. The crowd’s a little drained for this one… hell, I’m a little drained for this one.
  • OK match with a feel-good win for Roman. Good for what it was and exactly what it needed to be.

No Holds Barred match
If Triple H loses, he must retire from in-ring competition
Triple H vs. Batista

{Prediction: It’s Batista’s swan song before inevitably entering the Hall of Fame so why wouldn’t he face one of his closest friends and greatest opponent, Triple H. Throw in the story of HHH never beating The Animal and Ric Flair’s attack and you have the perfect storm for a Triple H WrestleMania moment. Winner: Triple H}

  • I like this new guest commentator gimmick. It’s such a long show, why not mix it up.
  • Good to see the ECW Zombie is still working as HHH’s driver.
  • Gotta love Shawn Michaels, telling stories better than half of the commentators.
  • This has been the first match to really slow down, for obvious reasons. It hasn’t been a bad match at all but the pace really stands out in a tremendous show like this.
  • OK, that was a pretty damn cool sledgehammer shot. Solid, classic-WWE style match.

Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin / Angle’s Farewell Match

{Prediction: Maybe the most controversial match on the Mania card should be the quickest. Despite Corbin’s win on Monday, I still believe Kurt will tap Corbin quickly and then issue an open challenge. A challenge to be accepted by John Cena. Winner: Kurt Angle}

  • Well that was surprisingly disappointing. I know Angle just resigned with WWE for a backstage role but what was the thought process behind this? Is Kurt secretly best friends with Corbin and wanted to give him the rub? Nothing makes sense.

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Finn Bálor

{Prediction: The Demon is on WrestleMania for the first time so of course he’s walking out with the gold. Winner AND NEW: Finn Balor}

  • There’s no more of a sure thing in WWE than “The Demon”. Great, physical match with Balor regaining the belt he never lost.

Winner Take All – Triple Threat Match for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship and the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship –
Ronda Rousey (Raw) vs. Charlotte Flair (SmackDown) vs. Becky Lynch

{Prediction: I’m curious to see if anything changes during the show but the addition of the SmackDown Women’s Champion feels like overkill. I don’t think a single person was complaining that these three women were only fighting for the RAW title but nevertheless, here we are. There’s only one right answer to this question; Becky Lynch will walk away with both championships. Then the McMahon family can screw her over during the Superstar Shakeup and strip her of one of the titles. However things end up, I have high expectations for this battle and fully believe they will deliver.
Winner AND NEW: Becky Lynch}

  • Amazing entrance package for Charlotte but I loved how simple Becky Lynch’s entrance was.
  • Ouch, I wonder who will suffer the blame for that botch. Such a shame too cause the match was exactly what it should have been (except for that damn table. Charlotte needs to stop trying to use them).
  • All in all, a fantastic WrestleMania with numerous matches I’ll watch over and over again.
