WWE Smackdown Live Hits and Misses 3.26.19 w/ The Chairman

HIT: Wrestlemania Rematch

There’s been very little clarity on what was going to happen with the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania. The E has completely dropped the ball on Asuka since she defeated Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble. Originally Carmella, Naomi, Mandy Rose, and Sonya Deville were going to wrestle for the right to face Asuka at Wrestlemania. Of course when it comes to WWE, card is subject to change. We got Charlotte vs Asuka, cool. However the ultimate curveball was tossed and that’s a Smackdown Live Women’s Championship match. The match was very good as expected. We seen things we never seen between these two including a Spanish Fly from Charlotte Flair. The second the title was on the line, I knew there was going to be a title change and sure enough there was. Charlotte defeats Asuka and wins the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship.

MISS: Eight Time Champion

Charlotte Flair made her main roster debut in 2015 and only three and a half years in she has eight title reigns to her name. She’s clearly on the path to tying her old man Ric’s impressive sixteen world title reigns. However I’m sure it took Ric alot longer to reach his eighth reign than Charlotte. I however do not have the time to research that so somebody tweet me the answer. Needless to say, Charlotte has quite the collection of meaningless and short title reigns to her name. This one clearly is going to be no different. Everybody knows she’s facing Becky Lynch and Ronnie for the Raw Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania. Unless we’re getting a title unification match (which is something I’ve been in favor of since they unveiled the tag titles), there is absolutely no reason to take the title off Asuka. There are plenty of pissed off Asuka fans on the wrestling twitter and rightfully so. However the main roster creative team has failed her by sticking all the eggs into the triple threat basket. The rest of the Smackdown Live women’s roster is average at best and haven’t been built up at all. Asuka verses any of those women in that proposed number one contender match isn’t deserving of a Wrestlemania spot. I personally would’ve been fine getting Asuka vs Charlotte at Wrestlemania for the second year in a row and having Becky and Ronnie one on one. I however do not have any pull in the WWE so what’s done is done. Asuka and the rest of the Smackdown Live women will be regulated to a generic battle royal that does nothing for you except take home a participation trophy.

HIT: Kofimania is Finally Happening?

Once again Vince McMahon is playing games with Kofi Kingston. This time however, Big E and Xavier Woods are the ones fighting for Kofi. New Day took place in a gauntlet match and of course if New Day won, Kofi would go to Wrestlemania. The Club made a shocking, yet quick appearance followed by Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. The Bar were next up and of course after losing to New Day they violently attacked Xavier and Big E leaving them for the pickings for the Usos. The Usos however cut a promo on how they respect New Day and Kofi Kingston and forfeited. This upset Daniel Bryan and Rowan who went out to put a stop to Kofimania. Big E however buried Rowan underneath the commentary table giving New Day a countout victory and Vince himself said that it’s time to see if the B+ player is ready for Daniel Bryan. Perhaps we finally have our match. However there is still one more Smackdown Live before Wrestlemania and with Vince, I can’t trust anything he says.

MISS: Kurt Angle’s Final Smackdown

I’m not sure if they were strapped on time or what, but this match definitely didn’t get the time I was expecting.  It was announced Kurt Angle would make his final Smackdown in ring appearance against AJ Styles. This is definitely something to get excited about. Unfortunately the match was over before you could blink when Randy Orton came in and got the match tossed out. Orton however received an Angle Slam for him troubles. Nothing more disappointing though then the WWE announcing a match, but it doesn’t get the time it deserves.

That was pretty much it for Smackdown Live tonight. Oh that’s right, Miz and Shane is now a falls count anywhere match. Okay then….. Anyways I asked the question on twitter that if Becky Lynch would’ve won the title tonight instead of Charlotte Flair would we still have the same reaction and I’ve received answers all over the place. I’ve had Becky and Charlotte fans saying that Asuka deserves better summarizing that there is alot of support for Asuka out there and many are disappointed on how she’s been handled by the creative team.
