WWE Smackdown Live Hits and Misses 3.12.19 w/ The Chairman

HIT: Orton and Styles Build is Hot

Randy Orton and AJ Styles was one of those Wrestlemania matches alot of people were expecting because there was nowhere else for them to go, but now it’s official. Both men claimed Smackdown was the show they built where Styles ripped on Orton for needing help his entire career and Orton ripped on Styles for being in the independent forever while he was winning championships and headlining pay per views in WWE. If these guys can keep this up the next three weeks, I will definitely be invested in this match. I will be getting a sneak preview of this match since they’re advertising this as the main event at the house show I’m going to this weekend.

MISS: Becky vs Charlotte vs Ronnie is Running Out of Gas

The creative team in the E had something special, but clearly they’re running on fumes. Many fans are just desperate at this point to get the match over with and fingers crossed Becky and Charlotte get sent to different shows. Odds are of course this is happening being one of them is heading to Raw, unless Ronnie wins of course ughhh….. Three more weeks is all we have left and it’s finally showtime.

HIT: Kofi’s Dream Match is There, But There’s a Catch

Vince McMahon in a somewhat awkward promo got into a confrontation with the New Day regarding Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship match. Vince of course finally said he’d give Kofi his dream match. All Kofi has to do is beat Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, The Bar, and Rowan in a gauntlet match. That is definitely a tough task for anyone, but at least there is something to look forward to for next week. Unless of course we get the old bait and switch WWE enjoys doing lately.

MISS: Samoa Joe Gets Pinned

Samoa Joe and Andrade teamed up to face R-Truth and Rey Mysterio. It was advertised Samoa Joe was going one on one against R-Truth, but of course the WWE is in bait and switch mode lately. These four superstars are once again sharing a ring and this time Rey Mysterio scored the pin against Samoa Joe. Could this be the United States Championship match for Wrestlemania? That remains to be seen. However I’m not a fan of title holders getting pinned in random tag team matches and it’s happened again here. I guess I should be thankful Joe still has his title though, because the midcard titles seem to be playing hot potato lately as you can see on Raw and what happened to poor Finn Balor.

MISS: Shane Takes Another Wrestlemania Spot

Well we all knew it was coming, but it’s official. Shane McMahon will meet the Miz at Wrestlemania. Now I found it really odd for the heel Shane to propose the match? I found it even weirder that The Miz didn’t even come out and confront Shane. Definitely feel like this was segment was a complete mess. I miss the days where the Miz was building prestige to the Intercontinental Championship, but now he’s stuck in a feud with Vince’s kid. Wrestlemania is quickly filling up with the old boys from the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression eras and Shane McMahon is another problem holding back the future. No wonder the WWE is struggling to create new stars.

MISS: Aleister Black and Ricochet Have No Direction.

As awesome as Aleister Black and Ricochet are, is it wise to keep them in a tag team. Let alone having them compete on both Raw and Smackdown? I feel like there’s no long term plan for this tag team and the creative team is just throwing them out there because they’re awesome at what they do in the ring. It’s just funny how WWE built these hype packages for the B level NXT callups and now they’re barely being utilized minus Lacey Evans random interruptions and here we have Black and Ricochet tearing it up with no plan laid out for them.

Well the good thing of this episode was we got some build to Wrestlemania. However there were way too many tag team matches and this close to Wrestlemania, you definitely need to have a program set for the WWE Championship. It’s going to be a long couple weeks until we finally reach Wrestlemania, can we survive? With that hit the follow on Twitter @ChairmanSV and thanks for reading.
