WWE RAW 1.14.19: The Three Key Stories w/Justin C

1. Bobby Lashley Is Intercontinental Champion? Okay, Sure

I went into the triple threat match assuming Dean Ambrose would retain the IC Title. Then Bobby Lashley pins him to win the Title? That kind of came out of nowhere. I was actually looking forward to seeing Ambrose potentially elevate the Title as Champ. He didn’t need it in his feud with Rollins but I thought that would be over after tonight. We know what is going to happen (or at least I think we do) we Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania. Dean Ambrose is now kind of left without a clear path to the show. Lashley is at least something different as Champion and now that they toned down Lio Rush and Lashley’s act the two have been very good together. I’m fine with something different and it gets you thinking about everyone’s paths to Wrestlemania.

2. Not The Best Use Of NXT Call-Ups So Far

So Nikki Cross had a good debut in her six woman tag match. I would have liked to see her get a pin but that is whatever. The rest? Well EC3 and Lacey Evans both randomly showed up backstage. And Heavy Machinery randomly appeared during the “Moment of Bliss” segment. They looked like complete idiots and if I had no idea who they were I would not take them anywhere close to seriously after that. And we don’t know what the story is with Lars Sullivan. I’m not saying that have to make a statement in their debut but all of these have been pretty weak for the most part so far. And they needed to be better considering it wasn’t a strong call-up class on its way up.

3. Finn Balor’s Time Is Now

We’ve heard talk over the last few weeks that Finn Balor was in line for a big push in the coming weeks. And while he was getting more TV times and wins on TV, we hadn’t seen much of anything else. Well we finally got to see that push go into motion. After Braun Strowman was taken out of the Universal Title match, Finn won the Fatal Four Way to fight Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. Not only that, but he pinned John Cena to win it. I assumed Balor would pin Corbin. Why else would he be in the match? But Cena put over Balor just like he put over Becky Lynch a few weeks ago. Do I think Balor wins? No. But hopefully this is more than just a squash match for Brock. Balor deserves more than that and I think he can get a good match out of him.

Random Thoughts

-What was the point of walking in on Alexa Bliss changing?

-Do they have to go down the same route every time when someone faces Ronda Rousey?

-I really wish the Riott Squad would actually win some matches every once in awhile.

-Women’s Tag Titles will be crowned inside the Elimination Chamber. I’m surprised they weren’t held off until Wrestlemania.

Until Next Time,

Justin C
