WWE RAW 1.7.19: The Three Key Stories w/Justin C

1. And Just Like That, The Braun vs Brock Build Is Dead

Could they have done anything worse with Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman in that segment? Braun comes out to the ring. Brock stays backstage while Braun recites the most scripted lines you could imagine trying to get Brock to come out there. Brock casually walks out there, then walks away as Braun recites some more scripted lines as he leaves. It is once again the problem with putting the Universal Title on Brock Lesnar. The man puts zero effort into the build up to his matches. He sometimes puts in a good effort in the ring, but every single build to every Brock match has sucked. He does nothing to elevate the feud or the match. He just goes through the motions and jumps up and down while Paul Heyman talks. They pretty much couldn’t do anything to get me interested after tonight.

2. Sasha Banks Finally Gets Her Shot. Does Wrestlemania Become Clearer?

In what came as a surprise to me, Sasha Banks beat Nia Jax tonight to earn a shot at Ronda Rousey at the Royal Rumble. It is long overdue. Sasha has been held down in the women’s division for quite some time and I think she will have a great match with Ronda Rousey. This is one of those situations where the WWE is doing the smart thing and taking a different route when it comes to their Title matches at the Royal Rumble. So does this mean Wrestlemania is now Ronda vs Charlotte vs Becky? I tend to think that it is. They aren’t going to put off the Charlotte vs Ronda match much longer. I’d prefer it just Becky vs Ronda, but I can live with Charlotte getting added. Becky will still be the most over person regardless when it comes to the match. And this way I think it is guaranteed to main event the show.

3. This Should’ve Been The Bobby Lashley We Saw From The Beginning

Bobby Lashley cost Seth Rollins the Intercontinental Title in the main event of RAW. And the crowd absolutely hated him for it. And you know what? I’m totally cool with this mini Rollins/Lashley mini feud that is going on. Lashley is getting real heel heat right now and the crowd was not happy when he came out to attack Seth Rollins. I’m sure they will have another match before the Royal Rumble and it should be a good one. Lio Rush is fine as a hype man but he was going way over the top with the posing and gushing over it. It is fine posing over a fallen victim but doing it for no reason is just plain dumb. Plus when Rollins eliminates Lashley from the Rumble it will be a good moment for Rollins. And hopefully Rollins now leaves the IC Title scene and goes to the main event scene going forward.

Other Notes

-I don’t know if they are going for a double turn, but The Revival came off as complete babyfaces in their match with Roode and Gable.

-Also not a good idea having all the RAW tag teams out there for that match. Shows how awful the division is.

-Whether you like Hulk Hogan or not, that was a very nice and touching tribute that he did to Mean Gene.

-I have no idea why Renee Young was so surprised at how short the mixed tag match was. Does she not pay attention to the show on a regular basis?

-It is still weird to see John Cena as an afterthought when it comes to his matches nowadays.

Until Next Time,
