WWE RAW 10.22.18: The Three Key Stories w/Justin C

1. My Prayers To Roman Reigns

RAW started with an absolute punch to the gut. Roman Reigns revealed that his leukemia, which he was diagnosed with in 2008, has come back. Roman was forced to relinquish the Universal Title as he leaves to fight this battle. I haven’t been a big fan of the booking of Roman Reigns, but I never doubted Roman as a performer. He constantly put on top level matches whether he was in the ring with AJ Styles or Braun Strowman. The guy busted his ass every week and he didn’t care if you booed him or hated him. I hope Roman Reigns can beat this again and come back and go on a tear when he returns. It’s always scary fighting cancer again, so I hope Roman can win this battle. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family during this difficult time.

2. I Couldn’t Be Less Interested in D-X vs The Brothers of Destruction

Another week, and another spooky D level horror movie promo from the Brothers of Destruction. This after Shawn Michaels and Triple H were out there making references to Kane as Mayor and running NXT. My favorite wrestler of all time, Shawn Michaels, is coming out of retirement and I barely care. The WWE is running this nostalgia angle with these guys and it just seems so forced. There is nothing at stake with these guys. It is going to be a bad match. They all look like guys that are just there for the money at this point. The WWE is ruining what could have been something special with Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement. Instead it is thrown away in a match that will mean nothing the day after it happens. The promos suck, the match will suck, and it leads into a show that will also suck.

3. A Bad Final Sell For Evolution

You wouldn’t even know Evolution was this Sunday if you half paid attention to RAW. The Nikki Bella/Ronda Rousey contract signing was bad with Nikki’s “burns” at Ronda’s mom. The women gave half hearted promos about the battle royal. And the tag match has had a bad build throughout. They better hope Charlotte and Becky sell the hell out of this show tomorrow night. Evolution pretty much feels like a throwaway episode of RAW at this point and nothing but a PR stunt. But to people who follow the product they can see this is not a well built show. It could have been so much bigger. And this will be part of my rant on the HTCWrestling Podcast this week. The WWE hyped Crown Jewel more than Evolution tonight.

BONUS THOUGHT: While Somewhat Shocking, This Was Probably The Right Time To Turn Dean Ambrose

-So you thought the night was going to end on a feel good moment? Think again! Right after Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins won the Tag Titles, Ambrose turned on Rollins and laid him out with the Dirty Deeds on the floor. People are going to complain about the WWE ruining a good moment. But they technically just did two things. They shifted all the sympathy over to Seth Rollins and cemented him as the #1 babyface on RAW. Not only that, but they just made a mega heel in Dean Ambrose and insured that he will be getting booed during this feud. I was dumbfounded at first, but I now understand it from the WWE’s perspective.

Other Notes

-Finn Balor beating Bobby Lashley was quite surprising.

-Trying to push Apollo Crews as a face against Elias was a bad idea.

-I’m here for an Elias face run. He broke one guitar and got more of a reaction then Jeff Jarrett did for breaking a thousand guitars.

-The short term of Braun vs Brock for the Universal Title is fine. But they need to build up Seth or Dean to take the Title in the end.

Until Next Time,
