WWE Smackdown Live Hits and Misses w/ The Chairman 10.2.18
Before we get started, just wanted to point out that I’ve hit my first year as part of the Hittin The Canvas team as I wrote my first Smackdown Live review one year ago on October 3, 2017. Just want to thank my HTC family for giving me this opportunity.
With that being said, it’s time to dive into the go home show before Super Showdown. I have no idea what all matches are on this card because it seems they’re only really focusing on the select few. But that is Saturday and this is Tuesday so let’s check the hits and misses of Smackdown Live.
HIT: Fabulous Truth What’s Up
I don’t know who decided to pair up R-Truth and Carmella, but that person deserves a raise. They’ve been fun to watch each and every week and work very well together. If those two were on Raw, they’d probably drown in oblivion. However on Smackdown Live they’re thriving no matter who the opposition is. Tonight they challenged Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega. The match was fun to get things started, but the finish was impressive. Carmella somehow turned a rollup pin sequence into the Code of Silence. The face turn for Carmella was absolutely refreshing and much needed. Hoping these two get more tv time going forward.
MISS: Waste of Time and Pancake Batter
Another New Day segment, another segment I don’t care about. They’re great in the ring, but I’m done with pancakes. And who is Mr. Bootyworth? The Bar came out and got the attack on the Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions so more than likely New Day will retain at Super Showdown and more pancake segments will be in the future.
HIT: Sadistic Randy Orton Strikes Again
Randy Orton may be a boring babyface, but turn the man heel and he excels. Now with his new torture persona, he engaged in battle with Tye Dillinger. Dillinger wanted payback for the attack last week, but Orton probably made him regret that. Orton took Dillinger’s finger and tried breaking it tonight in the turnbuckle. We’re still waiting to see who in fact Randy Orton is actually targeting.
MISS: One Night in Milwaukee
Sure enough the E is doing it again. The affair storyline with Lana and Rusev. Aiden English shows a video clip of Lana confronting him inside his hotel room where Lana says “I want you” and clearly she says more after that. However Aiden cuts the video off and leaves it to the imagination. Definitely not a storyline I’m excited about.
HIT: Benjamin Upsets Bryan
Shelton Benjamin’s appearances on Smackdown Live are few and far between, but tonight he made it count. Benjamin put on a solid match with Daniel Bryan. The Miz however was at ringside and provided a distraction that cost Bryan the match before Super Showdown. It’s a shame Benjamin isn’t used more, but he got a big win tonight.
MISS: They Seriously Have Nothing for Shinsuke Nakamura
The United States Champion who is featured on the Super Showdown poster, but of course doesn’t have a match has absolutely nothing going right now. I’ve never seen someone with as much talent as Nakamura get wasted. Oh wait, Finn Balor on Raw. Anyways, it’s frustrating seeing someone with Nakamura’s talent, let alone holding a title stuck in neutral. It wouldn’t be the worst idea to maybe a few superstar shakeups during the course of the year….
That concludes this weeks hits and misses. Follow @ChairmanSV on Twitter and we’ll do it again soon.
