WWE RAW 5.14.18: The Three Key Stories w/Justin C, Plus Thoughts On Ronda Rousey vs Nia Jax

1. RAW Has ZERO Compelling Storylines Right Now

I really thought RAW would get out of its holding pattern after Backlash. Boy was I wrong. There is exactly one actual storyline going on right now and that is with Jinder Mahal and Roman Reigns, two of the most boring characters currently on the roster. Seth Rollins is great, but there is no storyline. Same with the likes of Braun, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens. On the women’s side, the Sasha/Bayley feud has gone from good to awful. I came up with some interesting stories to make things better. But I don’t write for the WWE. All of these last few RAWs have felt like house shows with a TV budget.

2. Prayers For Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn came out on RAW tonight to talk about Bobby Lashley. Zayn said he has dug up some dirt on Lashley, and he will have Lashley’s sisters on RAW next week to talk about their family history. Poor Sami is going to have to do the carry job of a lifetime next week. The WWE doesn’t have a great track record with the recent “This Is Your Life” segments. Just look how badly the Alexa Bliss one on Bayley failed. I have no idea what the plan is for Lashley but one of these segments is definitely not the answer. And if it goes wrong you just know that Sami Zayn is going to get the blame for it.

3. If The WWE Got One Thing Right Tonight, It Was Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler

When I saw that Ziggler and McIntyre were fighting Finn Balor and Braun Strowman, I was nervous. I thought for sure that the WWE would kill the momentum of Ziggler and McIntyre, similar to what they did with the Riott Squad over the last few weeks. But to my surprise, they actually gave Ziggler and McIntyre the win. Similar to what is going on with Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy, the WWE has me interested in Dolph Ziggler at the moment. It takes a lot for me to get invested in Ziggler. I still hope that Ziggler and McIntyre are pushed higher than the Tag Team Titles. I would like to see them join up with a main eventer *coughseearticleabovecough*. But so far so good with these two.

Random Thoughts

-Watching the “Roman Reigns Screwed By Management” story play out is going to be fun to watch crash and burn.

-Seth Rollins has to be the Wrestler of the Year at this point. Not just WWE.

-Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel are being called the B Team? I hope this leads to a match with Stevie Ray and Vincent.

-Is it bad that I want the Revival to be released before September 1 so they can fight The Young Bucks at All In?

-Now that Alexa Bliss is in the MITB match, I fully expect to see a Twisted Bliss off a ladder.

-Not a fan of Elias and No Way Jose taking pins in their respective Money in the Bank qualifiers.

Thoughts On Ronda Rousey vs Nia Jax at Money in the Bank

I saw the news early in the morning that Ronda Rousey would be fighting at Money in the Bank. When that came out, I assumed it would be some kind of tag match. The obvious answer being Ronda/Natalya vs Alexa/Mickie. Alexa can carry the feud on the mic while Mickie can work with Ronda in the ring. And both Mickie and Alexa will bump like hell to get Ronda over.

Then I saw the announcement of Nia challenging Ronda at the NBC Universal Upfront Presentation. I was ready to throw my phone at the wall. The actual challenge as well was about as cringe worthy as you could imagine.

There is no good outcome here for any party involved. Nia is freshly turned face. She is going to get booed. And fans already started turning on her after her forced BA STAR speech after her match at Backlash. Losing here hurts her momentum, if she had any. And losing for Ronda? That’s bad. Even if it is because of Natalya, which I think is the likely outcome. And Ronda winning is WAY too early in her story. She shouldn’t be in the Title picture until later in the year. I always thought she should win the Title in December/January, then have Charlotte cash in Money in the Bank. Then Ronda can win the Rumble and challenge Charlotte. I’m under the assumption the MITB winner will be able to cash in on anyone.

Not only that, the match will not be good. Nia Jax is not the type of person Ronda should be facing in the ring right now. She should be facing Mickie James, and then eventually Natalya. That gets you to say SummerSlam. After that I’d have her fight a freshly heel Sasha Banks, maybe coming to the aide of Bayley during the process. Then come Survivor Series you have her sniff around the Title.

All of this is way too soon. It is bad business planning by the WWE. The story isn’t there yet. And there is no good outcome for their match at Money in the Bank. It’s a lose/lose situation.

Until Next Time,
