Quick Hits: WWE Smackdown Live 8.22.17

Opening Segment

-AJ Styles comes out and says he is reinstating the AJ Styles United States Title Invitational.

-Kevin Owens comes out and says that AJ did not beat him. A McMahon screwed a legendary Canadian out of a Title yet again.

-Out comes Shane McMahon. He said he called the match right down the middle, and AJ won fair and square.

-KO brings up what I did Sunday: Shane does all this crazy shit but sells ref bumps like death. KO replays Shane counting three then seeing AJ’s foot on the ropes. KO gets in Shane’s face and demands the Title back.

-Styles told KO to shut up and called him a little bitch. KO demanded a rematch and Styles said he would give him it to him. KO demanded he get to pick the ref and Shane agreed. He also said that as long Styles is Champion, this will be KO’s last shot.

-Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers come in. Bryan says Jinder can’t win without the Singh Brothers. He says Nakamura deserves some retribution, and he gets to face the Singh Brothers tonight.

-Backstage, Kevin Owens all but asks Sami Zayn to be the referee for his match tonight. KO says he needs a man he can trust and him and Zayn, despite their differences, go way back.

Aiden English vs Bobby Roode

-English is out there singing and gets interrupted by Bobby Roode.

-Roode makes quick work of English. It was still a bit too competitive for my liking. And I find it weird that Roode is presumably being positioned as a face. Is this their answer to replacing Cena? I hope not. I like Roode, but he isn’t close to that level.

WINNER: Bobby Roode

-Daniel Bryan tells Chad Gable that when he agreed to let Jason Jordan go to RAW, Angle would help him sign a friend to be Gable’s new partner. Bryan introduced Shelton Benjamin and said he will team up with Gable next week.

-Sami Zayn turned town KO to be special referee.

The Hyper Bros vs The Usos

-The Usos work over Mojo until he makes the hot tag to Ryder. Ryder gets some work in but is eventually taken out by the Usos with a super kick.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs The Singh Brothers

-The Singh Brothers are wrestling in their dress clothes.

-Nakamura hits all his signature moves on the Singhs then tosses them to the outside. But he gets distracted by Jinder and tells him to bring it, only to get jumped by the Singhs.

-Nakamura quickly recovers and gets one of the Singh Brothers to tap in a triangle choke. Jinder attacks him after but Nakamura catches him with the Kinsasha.

WINNER: Shinsuke Nakamura

Becky Lynch and Naomi vs Carmella and Natalya

-Before the match, Carmella let Natalya know that she is on borrowed time.

-Carmella is letting Natalya do all the work. She refuses to tag in as Natalya continues to get the upperhand on Becky Lynch until she tags in Naomi.

-Natalya finally angrily tags in Carmella. Becky sneaks from behind and hits a Bexploder suplex. Naomi then hits a split leg moonsault for the win.

WINNERS: Becky Lynch and Naomi

-Dolph Ziggler is back. He says he knows how to be a star and runs down everyone’s gimmicks. Okay then. Can’t he just be released?

-Lana and Tamina have a backstage segment about Tamina being Champ or something.

United States Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs Kevin Owens w/Baron Corbin as Referee

-KO bails to the outside early on. KO makes Corbin get Styles back and when he does KO attacks from behind.

-Styles dropkicks KO to the outside then hits a slingshot forearm to the outside.

-Back from break KO catches Styles on the outside and hits a fallaway slam.

-Styles escapes a headlock and goes to work with a forearm to the head and then a fireman’s carry neckbreaker.

-KO ducks a Phenomenal Forearm but Styles applies the Calf Crusher. Corbin tells Styles that KO touched the rope, even though he didn’t.

-KO shoves Styles into Corbin. Corbin then shoves Styles into KO and KO goes for a couple of roll-ups with quick counts but Styles kicks out.

-Shane McMahon comes out and argues with Corbin. KO low blows Styles and Corbin turns around for the pin but Shane pulls Corbin out of the ring. Corbin quits as ref and gives the shirt to Shane.

-Styles catches KO with an enziguri kick then the Phenomenal Forearm for the win.

-And with that, I am wrestled out. We will be back for the HTCWrestling Podcast on Thursday.

Until Next Time,
